I know! I hope he knows that not only was it published, but it's much loved. And that being gay and out now is so, so much better than in his time.

It makes me sad to think of men and women like him who had to live their whole lives pretending, lying, suppressing, and never getting to love and be with the person/people they really wanted.

i think a lot of people in his time lived through the oscar wilde obscenity trial, though... to them, silence was a preferable alternative to being publicly tarred and feathered, as it were, and potentially executed (although, to be fair, the death penalty for "buggery" was removed in 1861). :/

Oh, I know. I just wish they hadn't had to have that on their shoulders, and i hope that they, somehow, if it's possible, know that it's not like that anymore.

It's not *perfect*, but it's so much better.
