I agree. They didn't write that in a way that was okay. He kissed her twice without her permission or even the allusion that she was into him. She gave him absolutely no indication that she had any interest in anything other than her book, but suddenly he kisses her and her knees go weak? It was so incredibly gross.

They could have written that in a much better way, with maybe Alex being interesting in him, but finding him so dumb that she couldn't get over it.

Thank you so much for this comment. The OP probably isn't doing themselves any favors by labeling it as sexual assault, but I think that it was a dubious gray area at least. He seemed kinda stalkerish to me, even before he kissed her. So I was already somewhat annoyed with the storyline and then when he actually kissed her I think I might have yelled at the TV screen. I understand what some people say about the hate to romance trope, but they it is a much different situation when kids are involved.

Yeah, I think them being kids added another layer of it for me (and knowing that was Alex's first kiss, ugh). But I think in the hate to romance trope there's an equalizing effect between the pair and usually some level of shared antagonism that borders on really mean flirting, whereas this felt so one-sided.
