I don't think I've ever said this but...

I could have written this secret without any fingers. The strength of my "THIS!"-ness alone could have willed the words onto the screen.

I've always felt that there was a serious amount of sexual tension between them and I always wondered why they never got together. They knew EVERYTHING about each other. All the best and worst parts. And then a friend made me realize that that's probably why they WEREN'T together. When you know someone that well...

Still, it doesn't change the fact that I ship it like burning. I shipped it before I even knew what shipping was. It's the only het ship that I support so fiercely. Benson is amazing and Stabler is a sex machine. Oh, the sex would be epic.

I haven't seen every episode (kind of gave up on the last few seasons to be honest) but I can't really see it either. I definitely see love and devotion between them but sexual tension I almost never see there. I guess I'm doing it wrong.

I can't see them ever having sex either. Most everyone I talked to about them wanted them to jump in the sack, and I just don't see it. I like that the show has a man and a woman love each other in a platonic fashion. It's kind of refreshing.

I'm actually really glad they didn't hook up because that would have ruined them for me.

They loved each other and trusted each other in a platonic way. I think that had they slept together, it would have ruined the bond they had.

I don't ship it, but I'm going to miss their partnership. I pretty much grew up with their teamwork and believed it'd be going on as long as the show aired.

I'm also pissed that B. D. Wong isn't coming back. As much as I love some SVU, I think this might be the last or near last season. :\

To be honest, OP, I'm thrilled that Benson and Stabler never did hook up. I so respect TPTB for not kowtowing to some of the fans' request for it and that they didn't ever have Eliot divorce his wife (and seriously, some of the so-called fans' hate and disdain for Kathy was a little alarming at times) just so he could be with Liv.

As much chemistry as Chris and Mariska have together, that they never hooked up showed respect for both Eliot's marriage and marriage in general. There are so few strong, happy marriages on TV right now, and I always found it refreshing that, while they certainly had problems, Eliot loved his wife and actually wanted to stay married to her. I realize it's a TV show, but I still appreciated that the show generally respected Elliot's marriage vows.

Actually, that's part of the reason I just never could see them as a couple. It would be so out of character for him to leave his wife for Liv and/or cheat on Kathy with her. The show presents Eliot as a — for the most part — good Catholic who respects, and generally adheres to, the teachings of the church. Not only that, but he's shown to be a good man as well (albeit one with a rage problem at times, but still a good man at the end of the day). Given that, I just can't see him hooking up with Liv on the side or divorcing his wife to be with her.

That doesn't even touch on how incompatible I think they'd be personality-wise. Working well together on the job does not translate to working well together as a couple. Trust me, I've seen it first hand.

Not to mention, that's also not touching on how affected their on-the-job partnership would be by their off-the-clock relationship. What if they got into a fight? That could easily get one or both of them killed in the field. We've already seen what happens when they have tension and anger between them as partners – it almost got Olivia shot or, worse, killed. Imagine how magnified that'd be by a boyfriend-girlfriend fight.

All that said, again, I do realize this is a TV show, and I probably shouldn't care that much. I've just had debates/discussions with people about this topic, so I tend to be ready with this argument. :)

Totally this! I love that they didn't 'hook up' - it just would not have worked, and would have been totally OOC for them. They rock as partners - they don't need sex in the mix.

Didn't they try? Benson was transferred to Computer Crimes or something, and Stabler was in his own place,going through a messy divorce; then they decided "it wasn't working" when Stabler asked her for help on a case, and then she had to go undercover for the FBI..........
