If I was that author I would feel incredibly honored and happy my fic helped someone recover. I can't see how it would create a lot of wank.

I wish you and your wife all the best, OP.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry... I'm glad something helped you, OP.

As someone who went through two miscarriages, I think this secret was incredibly touching. I'm so glad that you found something that brought you and your wife closer together again. You both lost a child, and you have every right to your grief over that. I wish you both the best.

;_;

(Anonymous) 2011-10-13 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry for what you went through. *hugs* I'm glad you found something to help you.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-13 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry for your loss.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-13 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, op.

I don't know how you feel, and you probably won't like the idea, from the sound of your secret, but if I was the author of the fic, I wouldn't mind you sharing my fic to help others. I don't know what type of person is the author, but they might not be opposed to the community idea.

[identity profile] lls-mutant.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
OP, I am so sorry for your loss. Secrets rarely make me tear up, but this one did, and I'm glad something was able to help you during a very dark time.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-13 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I echo what the others have said. You *both* lost a child, no matter at what point in his life. A loss of a child affects both the mother and father, specially a wanted and loved child.

and fiction can help simply because it is fiction. There are no personal ties and yet it can speak from truth and experience.

My condolences to both you and your wife.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I had a miscarriage also, of course it was terrible for both of you. I hope you've both found some healing now.

[identity profile] meiko-matsui.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Echoing what everyone else said: your pain might be different given your wife was carrying the baby- and that probably has to be all sorts of awful for a woman-- but you both lost the baby and both will feel different and similar pains for many reasons and at different times. The best thing you can do is stand by each other, I think. I am very sorry for your loss.

I am glad the fic helped you, and I bet the author would be so touched. I can't imagine them getting angry about something like this.

[identity profile] copper-dimes.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, OP.

[identity profile] cherry-tiger.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Your pain is totally understandable and it is important to accept the fact that you have every right to feel the loss and pain. It will help with the healing process.

And seriously, it will be secrets like these that will keep the love of fanfic growing. The idea that a fic could have THAT much power over someone is touching even for me too. I'm glad you're finding ways to cope, OP, and I pray you'll find happiness once again soon.

[identity profile] dromaeosaur.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Joining others' voices to say that I lost a potential sibling to my mother's miscarriage.

What happened to you both is incredibly tragic, but I am glad that you both are finding healing. I wish you two well. /hugs

I'm sorry about your (and your wife's) loss, OP. I wouldn't worry about sharing the story early. I think most authors dream of truly touching at least one person with their writing. The way I see it, you've given him/her a great gift, just as he/she did for you and your wife.

[identity profile] meganmurphy1977.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I am so sorry for your and your wife's loss. The fact that a story gave you some amount of comfort or peace proves that despite everything, wonderful things can come from fandom.

[identity profile] night-owl-9.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so sorry for your loss, OP. I think it would be a wonderful honor to know that my fic helped someone heal, and I don't see the bad in that.

*hugs*

I just don't see how this is a troll. What's your reasoning behind this opinion?

Maybe it is a troll, but you know you could have stopped and thought for a moment that showing sympathy for a made up story does not hurt you in any way (What has the troll proven? That you're a decent person? Oh no, the shame!) and that if it is true you have shown someone support who might need it.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-13 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think I read this fic, and it was stunning (even tho I haven't reviewed yet b/c anoncomms are disabled). I think that you are a brave person for being willing to read it. So sorry for your loss.

I'm sure if they knew their story helped heal something so painful, they wouldn't be mad you shared with her.

If not, they're just an asshole.
