Hmmmm, I'm sort of interested in checking this out now… I've never watched any Precure though, is this a series I can just jump into or should I really watch the other series first? (And are they good?)

I've watched bits of various PreCure series and you don't have to start with the original because, from what I've seen, it's all self contained. They're in the same world but you have different groups each season.

I've seen bits of the original, some of PreCure Blossom (I forgot the actual name) and some of Pre Cure Go Go Go, or something like that. I tried the latest season which was dealing with music and had a cat mascot but it was too stupid so I quit it. I got pretty far with PreCure Blossom and that was a lot of fun, I enjoyed the characters and it's fun for shoujo since there's always been a lack of good shoujo, I think, after Sailor Moon ended.

This season though I haven't checked out so I can't tell you.

I think the best way to find out which series you should start with is to watch the All Stars movies first so you get an idea what kind of characters each series have. It's not required to watch them in any order, I'd recommend to start with Heartcatch Precure because it has been greatly appreciated even by people who didn't use to care about this franchise. Suite Precure hasn't been that good so far so I understand if that's not your thing, the first series(Futari wa Pretty Cure) is great too, I don't think Splash Star has been completely subbed, Yes! Precure 5 and Go Go are more traditional sentai type anime. Fresh is clearly more childish than the other series so you might want to avoid it now. :)

ya''ll are crazy. the chipmunk forms were the best THEY WERE ADORABLE AND SWEET and I actually liked their voices. I'm a huge fan of mascots. I loved that aspect about them. If they were ALWAYS OMG HOT BOIZ it would just be super boring. Plus I thought it made the romantic implications between coco and nozomi all the more bizarre and interesting.

so screw having traditional boring attractive male leads, the fact that their true forms were adorable little squishy stuffed animals made it AMAZING.

ITT people who don't know shit about Precure.

EVERY SEASON of Precure has cute mascots. Almost all Magical Girl shows have them too! This season had the best mascots because they were for the most part, very much like adults! (if with typical mascot-antics thrown in) The mascots from season 1 & 2 were spoiled brats. Coco and Nuts had the best voices, and I LOVE his squirrel voice! The fact they they turn into hot boys is amazing and hilarious but it's an EXCEPTION in the Precure world. In fact, I love the Precure series because they stay AWAY from the cheesey awful romances that plague Magical Girl shows. I stopped watching Mermaid Melody because "KAITO KUN KAITO KUN KAITO KUN" And on top of that, they're both genuinely nice guys!


Also, isn't it awesome that there's a kid's show with a canon love between a middle-school girl and a squirrel-alien from another dimension? I think so.

It's so hilarious that it's jarring - at least from my point of view. One moment there's the Coco/Nozomi shippy moment...and the next he's a squeaky-voiced chipmunk/mascot. It's even worse for Nuts/Komachi because he's always so serious and uptight.

(you know it's bad when you feel like bursting into laughter during serious, supposedly depressing scenes instead of being emotionally invested in ze drama~)

Well, I guess different folks, different strokes...no anime can please everyone. Otherwise I totes love Yes!Precure 5 ^^;

Haha, no worries. I just found it very funny how mascot characters are the norm in precure while boys are actually a the wild exception, not the other way around! It also makes for great scenes like when Coco took his human form in Nozomi's bedroom and her mom walked in. Way better than the usual mascot disguise of cell phones and such XD

The weirdness will subside, don't worry! Soon you too will wish you had an alien boyfriend who can turn into a plushie. Also totally watch the Precure 5 movie "Happy Birthday in the Land of Sweets" It's absolutely adorable and totally Nozomi/Coco errywhere.

LOL What I find hilarious is the characters switching from swooning over them to clutching their sobbing stuffed animal forms protectively. It is... very strange. But dear God I love Takeshi Kusao's voice and hearing it squeaky-pitched makes me so sad.

I don't know what this series is. I'm just chiming in as an animator (not of this) to say that the animation department had nothing to do with it. we just draw what we're told. blame visual development, I guess.

I just looked this series up and can I just say how awesome it is that the girls are wearing shorts under their skirts? I think that's the first time I've seen something like that in anime. It just makes so much more sense. Also, their hair actually changes (a bit) when they transform. I always wondered how, in Sailor Moon, no one recognized Usagi's hairstyle. I think I may have to check this show out.
