That happened to me with Fox Mulder. Loved Mulder, but the bigger Duchovney got and became an entity in the news, I found him really annoying. Which then bled over to Mulder. It's easy enough to get over it, but just annoying that it happens in the first place.

The funny thing about this secret is that Hogan-the-character was a total womanizer. Within the bounds of contemporary censorship laws, of course, but he was making out with a different chick every other episode.

personal anecdote here, your mileage may vary, of course, but Auto Focus RUINED Hogan's Heroes for me, and I grew up on that show. personally, i wouldn't recommend it (and I wish I'd never seen it). =/

OK I'm taking a risk and looking at Auto Focus on Wikipedia. I have fond childhood memories of Hogan's Heros but also I'm pretty sure someone told me about Bob Crane's life issues when I was small (in an age appropriate way no doubt.)

I am like that about another old-time actor...I don't want to say because it would maybe make me un-anon. But yeah. totally relating.
