I strongly, strongly suggest dealing with the fact that your ship isn't popular instead of trying to make up conspiracy theories for why it isn't. Contrary to what you may think, 37ish on 17 is not cool. At all. Even among 'fujoshi'.

You know, in one of my fandoms the wildly popular slash pairing is 32-year-old/16-year-old. Maybe this particular fandom is unusually full of people who don't like age gaps, but there are definitely quite a few slash fangirls who enjoy them.

People who ship pairings with that kind of age gap are usually teenagers themselves. I don't think it's to T&B's detriment that it manages to attract the kind of fans who think that a 37 year old man with an 11 year old daughter having sex with a 17 year old girl is out of bounds. Quite the opposite.

Except there is a young male character pretty much the same age as Karina in the vicinity, who is also pretty starry-eyed over Kotetsu. Though this can be read as normal admiration, this has never stopped shippers. And yet, there are not a ton of Kotetsu/Ivan fics. Really funny how that goes.

But Ivan doesn't read books about how to make a single dad fall in love with you, or talk about being in love with Kotetsu. If he did, I'm sure the T&B fandom would look pretty different.

Or maybe the fujoshi wouldn't be too interested in an actual canon not-straight character. Don't see much fic written about Nathan, after all.

That book is signed as Fire Emblem's all-time favorite. He openly hits on him. He wants to sleep with him. Fire Emblem is a male. Unlike Karina.

And yet the fandom still looks the same. Oops.

Or it could be that there's not much backstory for Nathan (at least compared to Barnaby) and that the most prominent male/male relationship is indeed between Kotetsu and Barnaby. No wonder people ship them more than they ship either of them with anyone else.

Anyone who uses 'fujoshi' as a perjorative in a non-ironic way is automatically wrong.

Also, here's a easy rule for you. Take the older character's age, divide it by 2, and add 7 to it. If that number is higher than the age of the supposed 'love interest' then you're not allowed to be butthurt when other people find it distasteful.

You need a healthy dose of Deal With It™.
