And really? 'Cause it was the exact opposite in my school(s). Well, ok, the chess club really wasn't considered "cool" or anything, but no one had a negative opinion of it. And if they did, it wasn't voiced a lot. A lot people-- even non members (like me!) would hang out at the club room all the time to play. It was popular without being popular.
The anime club, on the other hand...

(Anonymous) 2011-10-15 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)Maybe my school system is weird. But anime is just viewed as cartoons. Childish, but not horrendously geeky. So, right or wrong, my theory was that knowing Go from a tv show was no different than kids imitating martial arts movies on the playground.
