honestly, for me, all of my self esteem problems DID vanish when I finally lost the weight. I equated fat with unhappiness, ugliness, worthlessness, etc, so when it went it took those negative feelings about myself with it - when I was no longer fat I was no longer unhappy, ugly, unworthy, etc. I did NOT feel beautiful when I was fat and to ask someone who is unhappy with their body to embrace it is kind of ridiculous, the "happy and positive thoughts!!" thing is not for everyone. I understand this doesn't happen for everyone but it's not impossible. If you are fat and happy, power to you. It wasn't for me.

It's true that it's not for everyone, but at the same time there is the risk of losing weight and still being unhappy. That's why I'm suggesting that OP at least try to embrace herself for who she is in the mean time, because if she can, things will be easier for her. Weight loss is a long process, after all. I mean, I've had bariatric surgery and it's still going to take me about a year to get to where I want to be.

Also, I can't speak for everyone and I don't intend to, but I know in my case it was really hard to even manage to lose weight when I was so miserable and full of self loathing over my weight. I always thought "what's the point? I won't succeed anyway" because I got so discouraged by a weight gain or a plateau. When I started embracing myself for who I am and got happier, I started losing the weight easier, and that also helped me with getting up the courage to get the surgery.

I know that everyone will have a different experience, but it doesn't hurt to try.
