The ones where David Duchovny tries to do real acting are truly terrifying.

Same here, anon. In fact I've never made it all the way through "Sanguinarium," and I still panic every time I see the actor who played Donnie Pfaster on something.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear that actor's voice and my stomach clenches.

Oh god Donnie Pfaster. My sister has a friend who thinks that Eugene Victor Tooms was creepier, but I disagree. Pfaster's the scariest because people like him actually exist.

Irresistible is one of my favorite episodes, if just because it's creepy as hell without being paranormal.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE TXF and I'm the same way. There are just certain episodes that will keep on being creepy.

(Yay X-Files secret <333)

I don't really have anything constructive to add, I just wanted to say that this got "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies stuck in my head.
Watching X Files with no lights on, we're dans le maison~

I hope the Smoking Man's in this one~

I used to be terrified of "Chinga". Thankfully, on rewatching, a lot of the scary was gone.
I can't, however, bring myself to rewatch "Sanguinarium". Or "Home", for that matter. Guuuuuuh.

Oh man, I feel you. I can't listen to "Wonderful! Wonderful!" or watch "Home." I used to run to the back room at work to change the song when it would start playing. The Flukeman episode still creeps me out to the point of not watching it. Man, I miss this show. Well, I miss when it was good.

[identity profile] cyren-2132.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I just watched the pilot on Netflix last night, and actually had to stop and ask myself if it was something I wanted to commit to at 2 a.m. while lying in bed with all the lights off. But it was fine, because I spent a fair bit of time being all "Oh, 1993, you and your fashion are adorable..." Plus it was the pilot. When the Fluke episode or the stretchy gut episode come along...yeah, those will be 2 p.m. viewings.

I think this will be a fun rewatch, because I was a little young to get hooked on it when it started and was really only a casual viewer during the first half of its run. Also, hard to believe its coming up on 20 years old. For today's 12-year-olds, watching this would be like 12-year-old me watching something from 1974, which -aside from the *occasional* MASH or Columbo with Grandma -- just was not happening.

[identity profile] archerstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
God, THIS. I started a rewatch on Netflix and there were definitely some episodes I had to stop and play when it was light out.

For those of you who like X Files there's a great podcast at Dead Lantern (www.deadlantern.com) called "Explodey Jo Files" that discusses the show episode by episode.

When I was a kid I could NOT watch this show in the dark. I've grown up watching repeatedly so it's not as bad, but a few eps do get to me.
Interestingly enough, I've felt that the episode with Donnie Pfaster was an omage to "Silence of the Lambs". It's also based on a killer, I think Jeffery Damer, whose victims claimed he took on the face of the devil because they were so traumatized.

But yes...agreed on Duchovney acting. Gillian Anderson was the stronger actor of the two, but..I felt he did the comedic episodes really well.

[identity profile] wasabi-girl1.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The only way I can truly enjoy XF is to watch it at night in my room alone! XD

(Anonymous) 2011-10-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, the episode "Home" (the one with the FUCKING INSANE HILLBILLYS) still creeps me hell out, so I feel ya.

I still can't handle listening to that Johnny Mathis song...

I was five years old when I started watching X-Files, that's when it first aired. I was terrified when I was little, but now I'm not. I mean I think some eps are freaky as shit, I mean Home... is gross and scary. But I credit X-Files for my desensitized nature to any movie horror. I don't get scared at scary movies...ever.

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I have to be careful not to watch it before bed or I'll have weird dreams.

[identity profile] torakaka.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, OP. I can't watch them without my husband there to protect me, lol. Well, at least the first few seasons.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-16 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it had its creepy moments. Particularly the one about the plastic surgeons.

[identity profile] katerayearth.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I never watched it because I got terrified by a commercial when I was like six and I'm still not over it.

Oh man I can relate. watched Roadrunner for the first time a few weeks ago. NEVER AGAIN. UNADULTERATED NIGHTMARE FUEL.

[identity profile] slinkymilinky.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing much to add...just YEY! \o/ X Files secret!
I think maybe 'Folie a Deux' was the one that scared me the most...I know that's a random choice but something about how cranky and B-movie that episode was creeped me out. It reminded me of Quatermass and the Pit. :P

Pretty much everything they filmed @ Riverview is guaranteed horror material.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty much okay with most of the eps, though I will look away in some. The one I absolutely CANNOT handle is with the dude on the...skateboard or something? And he creeps up on people to kill them super-fast, IDEK, all I remember is that the sound of those squeaky wheels were frakking terrifying and absolutely wrecked my mental state, even after I muted and fast-forwarded the rest of the ep. *shudder*
