I don't mean popularity wise. I mean good as in I personally think that there's more to being a signer/musician than being vocally skilled. I think that Win Butler of Arcade Fire is a great singer (in addition to being a great songwriter/musician). He's not the best in terms of vocal skills, but I think he's a great singer because of the passion and emotion he puts in his vocals.

That's what I meant. I've gotten to the point personally where I just don't care about vocal skills. I'd take a unique/interesting voice over a technically skilled voice any day. In an example only I'll get, the JPop group Morning Musume teamed up with some old members to do the musical version of Ribbon no Kishi. There was a song, Anata ni Aitai, which in one version was sang by both Ishikawa Rika (considered not very technically proficient) and Takahashi Ai (who's considered to be one of the most technically proficient singers of the group). However, Rika sang it with such emotion and heart while Ai sang it with more skill but not so much emotion. I'd gladly take less technical skill over more raw emotion.

Long reply, but this is something I think about a lot, as a pop music blogger, haha.
