I'm glad you find affirmation in it! And thank you for your clarification to my other comment upthread! I've not heard much on the subject of agender/neutrois, and I'd love to learn more from that website you linked! *reading now*

Mostly for me it's the fact that it's said with such disgust. Everything before that point was said to the over-the-top enthusiasm of Mr B, or the fact that it's obviously an underage teen that Mr B is being physically affectionate with, but that was the first mention they'd really made of the perceived gender 'wrongness' of Mr B. I was fine with the attraction confusion, but the disgust is something else entirely.

Yes, we have to take our sources of pride where we can get them.

The idea that Mr. B's gender-confusing appearance is inherently disturbing is in the short's subtext from the beginning, though it may be that the character's unnecessary perkiness and unintentional but obvious predatory approach to a fourteen-year-old drew the riffers' discomfort in greater measures. I have no problem with "Mom! Dad! Please tell me you heard that!" because the implication to modern audiences is that Mr. B is a corrupting influence on a young boy, regardless of gender presentation. However, I think most of the attempts at defending the riffers' comments on this short are, for once, giving MST3K too much credit.

In fact, the characters' reactions to Mr. B's appearance make me wonder whether the 1990s were a time when concerns about racism and sexism were paramount but the treatment of gay and transsexual people was largely left unchecked. I was alive back then, of course, but I was too young to think about that kind of thing.

Oh, and please mentally replace the comma between the two clauses in my previous comment with a semicolon. I'm glad you're taking advantage of the educational opportunity, too.

Oh, believe me, I know.

/is an FTM.

And yeah, people getting defensive of the riffs on Mr. B Natural is making me side-eye all to hell. They're not agender or neutois themselves- it has no bearing on their personal feelings and thus they see nothing wrong with it. To claim otherwise to you, or tell you that you shouldn't feel offended, is to overwrite your personal and relevant feelings on it, and that shit ain't cool. B\

The 90s were a heck of a lot better than the 80s. But not much better. I'm glad we've moved a little bit forward on that front, and it gives me hope that the future will get better.
