This! I dunno about socially conservative but they were definite insular. I mean, regular Muggles are out of the question so your pool is going to be extremely small to start off and since there's like one Wizarding School in each country (if even although Hogwarts cover all of the UK and possibly Ireland), it's not unlikely to marry a person who went to school with at one point.

That said, the epilogue shouldn't happen though, it felt forced as hell.

Well, that's small-c conservative. They don't really seem to like change at all, you know? I mean, Muggles don't have to be out of the question, but I really can't see there being much reason to meet them and get to know them very well without issues arising.

The epilogue was a bit desperate, but it must have been the best thing she thought she could do for her fans. It would have been nicer as a web press release or something, but I think she'd rather it was there in print, so that every reader got to find out. It's just not how normal books end, so it felt pretty horrible.
