May I ask why? I don't mean to sound aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely curious. I don't know much about Devil May Cry past DMC1, but his new design just looks so generic and boring to me, as though someone thought 'hey what's popular nowadays? twilight? hipsters? yeah that will do for our hero!'

I guess it's because I'm surrounded by JRPG's - namely, Final Fantasy - and I'm getting so sick of their lead role being PRETTY. I'll take a bit of stubbly grunge over the bishounen any day of the week, after what I've seen happen to Final Fantasy.

I guess it depends on perspective. Old Dante is fairly good looking (moreso in concept art than in-game lol) but I never really saw him as a bishie. I'd say he's more "stubbly grunge" than the new Dante, but that's just me. IIRC the original creator of the character was tired of broody prettyboys appearing in Japanese games, so he decided to make a character who was the opposite of that. And thus, this monster was created:



New Dante, on the other hand, was designed with the sole intention of being pretty and "appealing to Westerners" (thanks for assuming what we all like, Tameem!) According to Tameem, he's meant to be the guy we can chat up in a bar...or something. :/
