Except that Weir is the only canon character shipped with Sheppard that other fans go out of their way to bash because of it, and they're never called on their gender/race-based hypocrisy. God help anyone who dares to make any reasonable criticism of Teyla or McKay because they'll be branded a racist or a homophobe if they do, but it's always open season on Weir and no one cares about calling the white woman an ugly old stick in the mud. Don't give the bigots a free pass.

I mean, I agree with what you're saying, but I was just saying that not everyone ships Sheppard with Weir, and that not everyone might like their relationship dynamic.

Bashing a character based off of a shipping, hell, senseless bashing of any character is in general a bad idea in my opinion, and I'm definitely not giving it a pass.

And the Weir fans are above any such nonsense? Please, I've seen some serious badmouthing of Teyla coming from that camp.

These days, I'm not seeing much bashing at all. Weir is mostly floating in space or invisible in McShep and Sheyla fic, and Teyla and McKay are mostly invisible in Sparky fic.
