Dear god, yes. I was genuinely moved by that section of Pottermore, when we found out that Vernon could have easily left Petunia for being related to wizards (what if Petunia had given him magical children? you know that it must have crossed his mind!) but that he told her that he didn't care. I know that they were horrible people, but I was touched by how much Vernon and Petunia loved each other.

I never got the impression that they hated wizards. Just that Petunia had had a bad experience with them in her past (thus she was jaded) and Vernon went along with it. But I always thought they would be perfectly fine with having their own wizard babies and would probably see their child as superior no matter what they were born as.

There was something on Pottermore about how Vernon viewed wizards as "freaks," and how he was so very stuffy that he disliked people who wore brown shoes with black suits, so Petunia was afraid that he would leave her after he found out. I mean, you're probably right, the Dursley's would've thought that their child was perfect even if he had magical powers, but I really doubt that they'd've let him go to Hogwarts. They probably would have said, "No, you're going to go to NORMAL school and try to be NORMAL because that's what this family is! NORMAL!"

I don't think they phrase it that way. Petunia'd be all "Of course my little Dudley-Wudley-kins can go to any school he wants! It's just that wizards don't have very good jobs, new-gatherers and all that, and they don't make a lot of money, and if you went to the school your mummy and daddy picked out for you it would make us so very happy, and we'd buy you all the toys and cakes you want, and when you were done with school you could get an easy job that paid you lots and lots of money! Isn't that what you want, Duddykins?"
