Originally they were going to write her as a trans woman, but they changed their mind. (so someone said in another forum.)

When she was young she said she wanted to be a Princess and Xanthe corrected her 'that's rediculous'. And little Linneus just wants to please Xanthe and goes along with whatever Xanthe wants. She likes to wear clothes which are more feminine and sparkly. Lilith says 'in the end I am a woman, and you're not' as an insult to Linneus. Why would that be an insult if that's not how she identifies?

Now I don't think it's canon, but I think there is enough for me, as a reader, to interpret it that way if I wish. The fact that the other characters don't see her that ways has more to do with the time period (in whatever universe it's set) than anything.

I'm also happy for other people to interpret it differently, but I think the creators missed a good opportunity there by not making that explicit in the text.

For the record, gay and straight males have and can express those needs and wants and still be male and not necessarily a trans woman. A persons clothing preferences have nothing to do with their sexuality or preferences.

That doesn't necessarily seem like a jab at a trans person specifically; just that Lilith says this in the face of him because Xanthe seems to prefer her and possibly woman in general. He doesn't specifically talk about his sexuality but he's at least bisexual from the recent pages.

I do agree that you have your right to interpret it as you wish, but since he is indeed a man, why would you address them as a she and or woman if they prefer to be called a he or identify as a man?

Because nowhere in the text does it show that Linneus identifes as a man. Until then that's how I will interpret that fictional character.

Thank you. Only one quibble with this, not all trans woman have dislike or hate their penis, though some do. So I'm not sure how I feel about that response.

Trans womyn are hella under-represented in the media, and I'm really disappointed that they tried to canonize Linneus as a gay man (hey, newsflash: IT AIN'T CANON UNLESS IT'S IN THE CANON, which goes for rando author statements).

I thought it was one of the redeeming things about the comic -- that it portrayed a genderqueer / trans character in the yaoi pool of despair (which is just a muck of gender essentialism, misogyny, etc).

So, I will also continue to read Linneus as a woman / genderqueer.
