And... then...? What ruined it for you, Valve's re-balancing? The adding of items? The adding of HATS? Or just the shift in the mentality of its gaming community? 'Cause. If you just want to play vanilla TF2, play it on not-PC. Alternately, this and anything else can be fixed by finding the right server on the PC version.

Personally, I love where TF2 is right now. I didn't get to see the game when it was a new release 'cause I didn't have a computer that could run it... Honestly, my current computer was bought specifically for L4D2, some months after release. I first played TF2 about 2 years ago, but the Halloween event was too chaotic and I didn't touch it again for a year... but got bored of it after camping Halloween events. I only just started again this summer, coincidentally right around the Free-To-Play release... and got hooked almost immediately upon finding a good set of servers. And I am content.

in answer to your questions: do i have to pick one?

though i have to say what cinched it for me was the trend of having donator perks- to the point where i was having trouble finding a server under 200 ping that didn't have them. worst was the server, and there were many such servers, that not only had donator perks, but gave players the opportunity to "test" them. complete and sheer insanity and a waste of my time.

i fucking loved king of the hill. it ate so much of my time. but i'll never see sawmill again. :(
