This is how I feel about Gaga. I understand that the gimmicks and outrageousness were a way of creating a career - she's a good singer with good music but so are thousands of others, and when she was recording under her real name she wasn't really successful. The freak show was a way of setting herself apart and creating an identity, and it worked. She's a big star now.

But she used to not take it seriously, at least that's my impression. She was having fun with it but didn't buy into her own hype. She does now. She's fallen down that rabbit hole completely and now she just looks ridiculous.

And since I'm talking about Gaga, I find it incredibly hypocritical of her to sing "Born that Way" with all of her body modifications.
