Uncanny Valley: The uncanny valley is a hypothesis in the field of robotics and 3D computer animation, which holds that when human replicas look and act almost, but not perfectly, like actual human beings, it causes a response of revulsion among human observers.

So no, they really haven't avoided it at all. The more realistic an animator tries to make their CGI humans, the more they will fall into the Uncanny Valley. Because no matter how good a CGI human might be, they will never look quite "right".
