Uncanny Valley: The uncanny valley is a hypothesis in the field of robotics and 3D computer animation, which holds that when human replicas look and act almost, but not perfectly, like actual human beings, it causes a response of revulsion among human observers.

So no, they really haven't avoided it at all. The more realistic an animator tries to make their CGI humans, the more they will fall into the Uncanny Valley. Because no matter how good a CGI human might be, they will never look quite "right".

It's possible that we might be able to work our way OUT of the uncanny valley, once the technology becomes good enough. It isn't 'more realistic is creepy' it's that once you skirt towards realistic, you have to get it closer and closer to humans to avoid creepy. At which point, you have to ask yourself, why not just cast human beings?

Tintin is still Uncanny Valley, IMO. Getting closer, but still no cigar.
