BEST BOOKS EVER
I never wanted movie adaptations because I couldn't see anything matching to my imagination...but if anyone could do it, he could! Now I really want this!

[identity profile] ninety6tears.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not familiar with the books, but I find it sad how few book adaptations are ever animated anymore (though this may be more of a western thing, maybe it's still pretty common elsewhere).

Oh my god a Miyazaki version of Morwen's house? Of fire witches? Of Kazul's library? How did I never know I wanted this.

[identity profile] wldnst.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I love those books.

The end.

[identity profile] crazyponko.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to see this. There were so many great characters in those books. I remember taking them out from the library again and again.

[identity profile] mellow-dk.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Miazaki, but his adaptations aren't remotely faithful. and he'd probably make Cimorene way too young.

That seems like it'd be awesome, but holy shit is this graphic secret ugly as fuck.

[identity profile] x0whitelily0x.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow. I had no idea how badly I wanted this until now.

[identity profile] scornedsaint.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still a little annoyed over what he did to Howl's Moving Castle, so I'm not sure I could trust him with another Beloved Fantasy Books Of My Childhood.

I emphatically DON'T want to see him adapt the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. I love Miyazaki. He is a brilliant filmmaker, but he wouldn't do a faithful adaptation of these books. He'd take the basic concept as a jumping-off point for his own creation, and while the movie would probably be great (see: Howl's Moving Castle) it also wouldn't be Enchanted Forest Chronicles (See: Howl's Moving Castle again).

And once he'd done a version of it, no other movie studio would even try, and we would never get a faithful adaptation of the books.

I'm not familiar with these books but I wouldn't want anything I like adapted by Miyazaki. He has this tendency to completely rewrite stories and turn the films into his soapbox. :/ (Either that, or just make the adaptation unrecognizable. With Castle of Caligostro I was like, "okay, this is nice and all, but who is this guy and where's the real Lupin?")

[identity profile] edmondia.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The books are amaaaaaaaaazing but not sure if want. :/

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I love these books. <3 They definitely need more recognition, and it would be really cool if Studio Ghibli did something based on them. :)

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Miyazaki's films. Especially the ones with high-fantasy settings. So if these books have that, then YES. Yes a million times.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I would kill for the series to continue. I really don't think the fourth book was meant to be the end. It just feels so...unfinished.

The magic of the Enchanted Forest was just so amazing. The dragon kings and queens kind of annoyed me because keeping the names didn't actually make the concept more egalitarian- it just made queen a weaker ruler than king, no matter the gender. Also, soapy, lemony water vanquishing wizards? Most awesome interpretation evar.

These books are awesome! I was actually thinking about them the other day. I had the whole series, and I think I gave them to my cousin to read years ago. Now that I think of it, I wonder if she still has them, because I would love to have them back to read to my niece.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Omg these were some of my favorite books EVER growing up. I still adore them. And now I really want this! It wouldn't be a faithful adaptation, but it would still be amazing because just thinking about what Miyazaki would do with that setting and those characters - it'd be gorgeous.

[identity profile] dark-puck.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
...I would pay my EVERYTHING for this. omg. So much want, RIGHT NOW.

[identity profile] caffeinefreeddp.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
DOOD I LOVED THOSE BOOKS. I still look for them in bookstores, because I'd love to have the whole series and am too damn lazy to just go on Amazon and buy 'em.

[identity profile] tigerdreams.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Those books are SO AMAZING. I'd love to see them made into movies (though if, as people here are saying, Miyazaki doesn't really do faithful adaptations, I'd be just as happy for someone else to do it)!

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I had a braingasm at the very thought of this occurring.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd have no interest in seeing them animated, but boy did I love those books.

[identity profile] kryptoncat.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you OP. Today I saw the face of my hero.

[identity profile] demeure.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
OP THOSE BOOKS WERE MY CHILDHOOD.

Not even kidding they formed so many of my ideas about what I like in fiction, women in fiction, and even chapter titles.

CO-SIGNED x 10000.
