I'm as annoyed by some people's need to slash everything under the sun as the next person (and I mainly read/write slash!), but I don't think this is the best example for a "Really, slashers? Really?" secret. Two people from different worlds meet, form an unlikely and longlasting friendship, learn from each other, and become reliant on each other as they go onto great, world-changing things? Portrayed by actors who developed a well-publicized bromance during filming? I don't slash them personally, but I think anyone with even healthy, relatively loose slash goggles could see why this might lead to some people shipping the characters and/or actors.

All I'm saying is if you're going to worry about someone's slash goggles becoming too tight, it should be because of a truly incomprehensible pairing. This isn't one. Your friend doesn't have a problem, IMO (although you might...)

I disagree. It's a great example. There was nothing at all "slashy" about this relationship. As a general rule, I don't mind any sort of shipping (unless it involves an underage character paired with an adult, or something along those lines). But, there's nothing wrong with thinking that other people are going overboard by shipping a pairing when the actual relationship is obviously platonic.
And I don't think the OP has a problem at all. You and the OP's friend on the other hand...

Wow, am I ever grateful for this secret. When my friends showed me this movie recently, they were *shocked* that I didn't see the slash, and tried to talk me into seeing it. In fact, one of them argued with me, practically berating me over it. I was starting to think maybe it was just me that didn't see it.

I'm a slasher, too, and I read and write slash fics in various fandoms. I just didn't see it here.

For those people who commented and said "what's wrong with seeing slash here?", or "your friend sounds great, I slash it, too!" -- that's fine, more power to you. But what bothers me is the fact that my friends implied that I was a bad fangirl for not seeing the slash in this movie.

Can't I just enjoy a movie without having to slash the characters?

... see, I feel like people are just acting this way because they're old. *shrug* Sounds like the foundation for a ship is there, but people don't see it as much/judge those who do because eww old people etc.
