I prefer it to the BBC Sherlock adaptation, but I prefer Jeremy Brett over it, if that makes any sense.
Although I love the books the most and probably always will.

Co-signed, OP. It's my absolute favorite.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Basil!

I'd have a hard time saying I think he's the best, since he's an AU version, like the BBC version (modern day) and the Young Sherlock Holmes version, etc. I tend to look at them differently than (supposedly) canon!versions, like Jeremy Brett and the RDJ version, etc.

I will say that Ratigan is the only version of "Moriarty" I've EVER liked, though.

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay Ratigan! I have to agree. Moriarty is usually annoying, but not when he's singing with Vincent Price's voice!

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed! Ah, Vincent... (-:

I know the others, but are the middle two from the Russian tv version? I should see if I can find that somewhere...

Heh pretty much the same here. Although the more times I watch Jim from BBC's Sherlock the less I hate that portrayal. It's sort of starting to work for me.

For me it's not THE best, but it's up there.

[identity profile] sensualcoco.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I didn't like the plot of it. But I loved the mood and imagery of the whole movie. And Basil and Ratigan where pretty good.

Basil!Sherlock is tied with Wishbone!Sherlock for my absolute favorite.

I was going to make this exact secret! You beat me to it.
After finding out Basil of Baker Street was an actual series I've been thinking of reading it, but don't want to ruin the perfect Disney version. I like Ratigan as a rat better. :)

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The books are cute, but they are definitely meant for younger kids.

[identity profile] nochi_san.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thiiiiiiiiis

[identity profile] colonel-bastard.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
That movie is simply the best. <3

[identity profile] pengychan.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Man, I just loved this movie as a kid. When my cousin didn't want to watch it all I insisted for us to only watch the Big Ben scene before moving on to another movie. It's the only Disney movie I can think of right now where I loved BOTH villain and hero.

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Love this movie. It needs more love.

[identity profile] singeaddams.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
DITTO! The best Sherlock characterization ever, perfect right down to his muttering at his instruments.

[identity profile] flowrs4ophelia.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
HEE, YES. Maybe he's not the best, but Basil is as good as any Holmes portrayal gets.

[personal profile] oxfordtweed 2011-10-24 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not the best, but still one of my favourites.

[identity profile] dragonalchemist.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, now I'm thinking about a version in which Jeremy Brett does the voice of Basil, and it amuses me thoroughly.

But yes, one of my fav Disney movies. Ratigan was scary as fuck when I was 12.

[identity profile] quorothorn.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Love this movie. Haven't seen nearly enough "takes" on Sherlock and his stories to say if I truly think Basil of Baker Street's movie is the "best", but he was definitely epic.

[identity profile] quamquam20.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
YES. Basil is so canon, it's ridiculous.

He deserves a better Watson, though. Dawson is sweet but not remotely competent.

This secret is good and you should feel good.

[identity profile] hideincarnate.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
This is hands down, my favorite Disney movie of all time. I am glad I am not the only one who loves this adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.
