You'd give up 80% of your privilege just because you're too lazy to stand in line for a passport? What is wrong with you?

And spoiler: you can die young in the 21st century too.

I think you completely missed the point of this.

Concerning that Not!Secret... I've actually read a fic in which Hermione convinced Snape to grow a little facial hair because she had seen Robin Hood and thought that way he would look like the Sherriff of Nottingham, the thought of which she found sexy...

And I've seen fanart in which Bella reads Twilight and imagines Edwards as a sparkly Voldemort.

Well, writing is considered to be therapeutic. You pour in so many things from deep inside your mind without realizing it.

I have read a few fics which briefly or peripherally referred to this. Usually it's treated as though the character has a passing resemblance to the actor. This seems like a reasonable way to deal with it to me. I think it's kind of interesting to think about, from a pseudo-philosophical standpoint. In my opinion, because the character isn't the actor and visa versa, there is no reason whatsoever that they would exist in a universe without the other media their actors participate in. The character is an idea and thus exists totally independently of whomever plays them.

It's more interesting to me to think about fiction universes in which magic isn't hidden to the public, because they wouldn't have experienced any of the books and movies and tv shows with magic in them that we watch the same way, though they could have still existed. What would something like HP be viewed as in a society that thought of magic as mainstream?

Or, you know, it was originally a book. So the characters wouldn't look like the actors in their universe so the movies can exist just fine. The only movies that wouldn't exist in their universe are the Harry Potter movies.

wouldn't they? I mean, neccessarily? We could assume that Rowling is... say, a squib. She would have broken the secrecy law, but she wouldn't actually be part of the magical society... there would have been a shitstorm, sure, but maybe today's Minister is a little more liberal and...

oh, I guess that's a fic of its own.

Whoa, shit just got meta. XD

I like that you listed Dogma first heh.

I know what you mean. I actually remember watching a Chuck episode where Chuck was talking about how much he liked Chevy Chase's performance in a (real) movie, and it bugged me because Chevy Chase had played a villain in the Chuck!verse the season before.
