David is an ass but... really? You don't think it's possible for straight people to exploit queerness?

I mean, straight people writing about queers doesn't need to be exploitative, it can be mutually beneficial if you do it right, but it absolutely can be exploitative and has been done very very wrong, so. Seriously?

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to exploit a sexual orientation.

Sure, there are bad slash fans out there who write offensive stereotypes and are generally creepy and fetishistic about the whole thing. But that's not 'exploiting homosexuality' that's 'fetishizing homosexuality'. Slightly different.

I completely agree. People are making this to be a opressing men vs opressed women thing but when you start writing about gay people you're putting gay men into it and like it or not, they are the ones who get a say in how they're represented. No amount of sexism and opression gives a straight person a pass in dismissing a queer persons views of how they are presented just because of their gender.

I like how you're assuming that a) davidshepphard is gay and b) the anons offended by his misogyny are straight.

I don't recall ever mentioning davidsheppard or his sexuality on my post.

Their sexualities are irrelevant so long as they aren't what they're objectifying, ie gay males.

And I'm pretty sure she meant fetishizing of gay people done by straight people, sometimes people get messed up in semantics.
