I always wondered why the lion got that extra song, even when I was a kid. It was so random and completely pointless to the story.

I always thought they needed to have something happen during the wait, so it felt like they were actually sitting there and knowing that they might not even get to see the Wizard even though they were completely out of other options. I was always really worried about them in that part as a kid, even though I knew they were going to get in, and I felt really bad that they were all trying to amuse themselves when everything was completely out of their hands. It wouldn't really feel like they were waiting if it just cut to things working out, you know?

Though I agree that the song itself wasn't that great, and the writers could have found something more appropriate to put in there.

That's a really good point! I remember thinking WAT when I first watched the movie and the song popped out of nowhere, and I always wondered why it was there. What you said about the reason behind it makes total sense, but yea, I think the writers could have written something better instead.

I like the Lion's superfluous song, but I would have loved to see more of the Scarecrow, too. Did you know that a lot of the witch's parts were cut because she was thought to be too scary? I want to see that movie!

I can buy that, she scared the SHIT out of me when I saw the film for the first time (I was 4), my dad had to mute/fast forward her scenes for me and everything. Gahhh.

I could never get into this movie. I loved the books as a kid, and when my parents tried to get me into the movie I got so angry at all the changes. Now, as an adult, I get that movies are often very different from the books, but I still have a reaction every time I see pictures or clips of this movie. I mean, really, they changed the whole basic meaning of the book by making it all a dream. I get that it is a classic and all, but I just can't like it.

AND, they made the Emerald City of Oz be actually all emerald, rather than the book thing where they all have to wear green glasses to make it look green, which completely misses the whole thing of it all being a swizz. But then, even the second Oz book seemed to make the wizard actually be a wizard, so I guess I can't be too mad, but I loved that in the book and it seems so weird to not include it in the film.

Now that I know this, I'm pissed.

I was originally just annoyed that the Lion got that stupid song and the original Jitterbug song in the Witch's forest was cut.

I love my Scarecrow. =(

....Lion's extra song was one of my favorite parts of the movie. :(

I can understand this, BUT the Lion's "If I Only Had The Nerve" was like 1/4 the length of "If I Only Had a Brain"/"If I Only Had A Heart".

Here are the lyrics, compared to the other songs:

"Yeh, it's sad, believe me, Missy, When you're born to be a sissy
Without the vim and verve.
But I could show my prowess, be a lion not a mou-ess
If I only had the nerve.
I'm afraid there's no denyin' I'm just a dandelion,
A fate I don't deserve.

And then the others interrupt. The Scarecrow and the Tin-Man both had musical interludes/dances. I reasoned the Lion's extra song (aside from awesome) was evening that out.
