not the op

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
So is it a terrible thing that characters like Amon Goeth in Schindler's List and Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, turned me on?

:( I mean, I didn't ask to find Nazi outfits sexy. I would never get up in one and parade around in public, nor do I follow any of the Nazi ideology, nor would I ever Sieg Heil. I just think they look hot in those clothes.

I haven't seen either of these movies, so I can't really speak to those specific circumstances. Like I said, it's mostly a personal thing, but the outfits just carry a lot of symbolic meaning. To me, Nazi uniform = Nazi ideology, and I can't separate the two.

average age of fandomsecrets this month is 16 years old.

don't worry, your kink isn't half as bad as number 36's kink.

i read this as "16 months old" and i'm dying lol

I'm trying to decide whether or not that would make f!s an even more fantastic place to be.

The nazi uniforms were designed by Hugo Boss. So there's absolutely nothing wrong with finding them sexy. Hugo Boss is a great designer, regardless of the horrible people who once wore their clothes.

Ever since I found that out, I always pay attention to Hugh Boss ads/displays whenever I see them. I mean, sure they were the most evil and disgusting men on the planet, but damn did they look good.

I read that as Huge Boss and my mind immediately fell into the gutter.

Nah. I found them both quite sexy myself. As long as you recognize the fact that they were/are evil fucking men, and not trying to excuse their behaviour, there's nothing wrong with wanting to bang them.

oh thank god, the grown-ups are coming out. i thought fs had been taken over by 12 year olds today :(

I admit, the amount of wank this secret has caused here is kind of impressive tbh

anon who asked gertie the question in this thread

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I was kind of startled that the uniform kink could still be conflated with the ideology in some people's minds, considering how widespread a kink I know it to be.

I think the wank has to do with the OP not understanding and acknowledging the historical context and the weight Nazis have had on our culture. They're either very young or very trolly.

In my case, I suspect it has something to do with the appeal of the uniform PLUS the evil guy in it. I mean, I feel nothing for Captain Vidal, though he's somewhat on the same level of the first two, and likewise I feel no appeal for Private Zoller, because his Nice Guy veneer creeps me out.

I agree, the secret isn't phrased very well. I think that's why people are shitting themselves over it.

In my case, I suspect it has something to do with the appeal of the uniform PLUS the evil guy in it.

Oh this, very much this. IA with Vidal (he never did anything for me, too gross) and I only found Zoller attractive when he lost his shit at Shoshanna, orz

Christoph Waltz is a sexy bastard and Landa was oozing with charm, and Steven Spielburg actually hired Ralph Fiennes for his 'evil sexuality', so don't worry anon, there is definitely a highly sexual component to those characters and you shouldn't feel bad for being turned on by them. I certainly was!

Re: not the op

[identity profile] piratesswoop.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
imo, that's different because you're arguably lusting over the actors in the costumes, and not the ideology. young ralph fiennes was a very handsome man and he made evil look hot, but obviously you weren't turned on by that deranged blonde guy who went nuts during the "immolation" scene.

you were turned on by the men IN the outfits, not the outfits themselves or what they represent

not the op

(Anonymous) 2011-10-26 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
That's a nice theory about the quirks in my sexuality, but it falls through. Fact is, I'm not as attracted to those actors when they're out of those uniforms. Sometimes I think it's just the idea of interacting with obscene evil that turns me on, much like fantasising about getting it on with a demon.

I'm also attracted to Kroenen from Hellboy when he's in his uniform and gas mask (I love his clockwork prosthetics, too), but not so much to the eyelidless, lipless face. It's a strange line of attraction to walk, and it doesn't always make a great deal of sense logically or morally. Sometimes the Nazi character in question doesn't even need to be in uniform for me to find them more attractive than in the actor is in his non-Nazi roles- for example, Neville Sinclair in The Rocketeer.

It's just not that simple.
