I get a little confused with Killer Moth's history. He turned into Charax or whatever for a while, but then it turned out he didn't? I don't know, it's difficult to follow stuff like that when you don't read every Gotham title going back 20 years. I should probably check out his Wiki page or something. But I actually really liked him in Batgirl: Year One - I know he was played up as bumbling and inept but I actually found the whole 'struggling villain trying to be taken seriously in an ocean of more psychotic, more gimmicky villains' idea more enjoyable than a generic 'crazy villain is crazy' plot. And his pairing with Firefly just made him all the more likeable, in a way. He's still a jerk for being a criminal and all, but I liked reading about him, if that makes sense.

I have to admit, with Penguin he kind of creeps me out with his endless stream of girls who are clearly paid to sleep with him. There was a time, particularly around No Man's Land, where he couldn't be on panel without scantily-clad women draped over him, and it skeeved me out because it was made kind of implicit that they were there to make money or to simply survive by selling their bodies. And of course, it wasn't really addressed. And then there's that issue of Joker's Asylum (I think) where we see Penguin 'fall in love' and try to be a better man. But when he does something awful and the woman he loves sees it and is upset by it, he sells her back into sexual slavery for the crime of judging him. Stuff like that makes it hard for me to enjoy him. However Birds Of A Feather, which dealth with the same sort of story, is one of the better Batman: The Animated Series episodes, and considering the overall quality of that show that's saying something. That version of Penguin I like.

I've seen some pretty hardcore fans for Tetch and Wesker (and even Tetch/Wesker) so I'm kind of surprised Killer Moth and Penguin don't have more people who adore them. Especially Penguin, since he was part of such a well-loved film.

Whenever I watch Batman Returns, I fast forward through most of the Penguin scenes. Still, it could be worse. My nose could be gushing blood...
