Personally? I just don't think Hotch and Prentiss would work because I think they're too much alike. Hotch needs someone a little more light-hearted in his life (*cough*like JJ*cough*). Though...I do think a lot of Emily's hardassery is her being a consummate professional for the team and I think she DOES have a lot of potential to be hella fun when you catch her off the job.

So, uh, while I do think everyone should be allowed to ship what they want, and though I can see WHY people ship Hotch and Prentiss...yeah, it's not my preference either, OP.

(And you're right, Hotch is way too busy with Jack and definitely still in love with Haley. Maybe in the future, he'll remarry, but not right now.)

IA with your characterization of Emily. I think she'd be totally fun off the job hanging with her friends, but she and Hotch is just.. no to me.

People can ship it of course, I'm not saying otherwise, just, I don't think the people who do and think they'd legitimately wind up together married are actually understanding the characters. It's not something they'd do.

Well idk if you're into spoilers or not but there is a lady coming up... all I'll say if you avoid spoilers RE: the parentheses.

I also don't really see Prentiss being the marrying type, period. She just seems like a lifelong bachelorette to me--I think she knows that the job would be hard on anyone she'd marry, and she's seen what it can do to the other people on the team and their families.

I don't watch the series as it comes out, since I'm bad at keeping up with new episodes, so I catch up when they start airing reruns on other channels. I don't mind spoilers. Dare I ask?

I think she wants to 'settle down' at some point and have a kid but who knows if she ever will - she loves the job but it makes things very hard as she's seen w/ Hotch and Rossi and the list goes on I'm sure.

SPOILERS:
There's a woman in an upcoming episode who apparently works with Hotch quite a bit, and the showrunner's said someone on the team may see a new romantic connection so.. it's presumed this girl is a new love interest for Hotch. !! We'll see how it goes.
