Warning: post and links may be triggering.

Sorry to spam with non-fandom related things, but I felt this was important enough to warrant a post. Somebody was erroneously namedropped in the thread in yesterday's post regarding a rapist, and is dealing with the fallout of it now -

Seriously guys, please doublecheck before dropping actual names/usernames in serious issues like this. I'm all for people being safe, but not for dragging innocent people through the mud as collateral damage. These two people are pretty obviously not the same person.

Thanks.

Somehow I knew this was going to get taken out of control. I saw the initial post with the warning before the insanity and I've seen this shit before. It was from another big blowout dramafest on LJ about a known rapist at a con. I agree that I'm all for people being safe and awareness, but that's just it. You can stay safe by being aware and making smart decisions. Every time someone goes out they could be in the vicinity of a rapist, so learn to take necessary precautions. That's it. And for the love of all things on LJ, don't bring bullshit like this into it and don't be stupid enough to fall for shit on the internet. Just because one person said it was that guy's name doesn't make it true. They could have a grudge or something against him, who knows? Question everything.

Why the fuck has this pile of victimblaming shit not been deleted.

"No, you shouldn't try to get rid of rapists and make them not attend cons, you should just be more careful! Silly women, don't you know if you're raped it's your fault for not being careful enough?"
