Notes:

Somebody's been spamming the submissions post with old secrets, apparently (for what actual purpose, I'm not sure). Just give me a heads up and I'll take the repeats down.

I thought they were pretty easily told apart. I mean, most of them are actually different species of owl (including a whole different family of owls which include the barn owls but none of the others).

Besides, they also have very different sizes and colourations. But maybe owls aren't your thing?

[identity profile] damnated.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
By species I actually mean genus (there are some from different species, genus and families).

I didn't have any trouble telling owls apart.

But I sometimes have trouble telling people apart D:

[identity profile] urplesquirrel.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I thought they were very easy to tell apart. They were all different sizes, colors, and species. Kids' movies tend to be good about making the characters visually distinct.

...

Why does "Boy Scout" keep getting used as an insult. :/

I mean, the organization has some problems, but actually being a Boy Scout...? >_>

[identity profile] nyteowl112.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Boy Scouts: All American outdoors-boys with a love for the football and survival skills to rival the native American.

They're like... perfect, good, and all-capable. Too goody goody :D

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah... That still bugs me though... /has two younger brothers in boyscouts, lol.

[identity profile] ibroketuesday.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's not about actual real-life people who are Boy Scouts. It's a criticism of fictional protagonists who have no character flaws whatsoever and fall into the same general mold, because that mold is boring. It's nothing to do with literal Boy Scouts.

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, the mold is boring.

It's still labeled "The Biy Scout", though. I mean, if there is no connection to literal Boy Scouts, why is it called that?

[identity profile] ibroketuesday.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's a reference to the stereotyped image of the Boy Scout as the golden guardian of chivalry and heroism or whatever. It's about the image. It's the same thing as saying a guy is a knight in shining armor; not meant to be understood as literal or a reference to the real-world people.

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
And yet it still bugs me. Sorry. ^^;

LOL, I love that "Boy Scout" defaults to "All-American" when the organization was started in England and there are scout troops all over the world.

[identity profile] dinerstate.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I thought they were easy to tell apart even if I couldn't remember ANY of their names. I really liked how you could sort of equate their colorations with different human features, such as goatees or bushy eyebrows.

[identity profile] copper-dimes.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this was my problem. The only ones I can remember having trouble telling apart were the main owl (Soren?) and his brother and that was only for a little while. Their names? Fuck it, I had no idea who the hell they were talking about most of the time. Really pretty movie, though.

[identity profile] fencer-x.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I think you need your eyes checked... Several of these aren't even in the same genus or family (that's like looking at a group consisting of a gorilla, orangutan, human, and a chimp and saying "eh, they're all monkeys. Can't tell them apart.")

"Owl" covers a huge number of species. You can even easily tell the difference between Tytonidae and Strigidae based on their eyes (Tytos are all black, Strix/Bubo and the like tend to have yellow eyes with dark pupils).

So..... Cute.....

Clearly you aren't that bright.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-01 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
it's okay, op. they look like owls to me too

[identity profile] 131-di.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I kinda gotta wonder if you're a little bit dumb, since... those are pretty different owl species right there. I mean. what?

[identity profile] whatpipeswhy.livejournal.com 2011-11-02 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
They're...not even the same kind of owls, bro. It's like annother commenter said: it's like not being able to tell the differences between chimps and orangutans, or between orangutans and spider monkeys.

Plus, they had several visual cues for human viewers to tell owls of the same species apart. Sorren's brother had more red in his feathers, to foreshadow his becoming a Pure One, the queen of the Pure Ones had whiter plumage than the other barn owls.
