Notes:

Somebody's been spamming the submissions post with old secrets, apparently (for what actual purpose, I'm not sure). Just give me a heads up and I'll take the repeats down.

I have a weird fascination for Myers-Briggs too. I agree that the mere answering of the questions helps you really get inside the head of a character and work out some of what motivates them. It's certainly better than most supposedly character defining personality quizzes on the internet that ask you what their favourite colour is and whether they like thunderstorms to sunshine.

for what it's worth I'm convinced that the gentleman in my icon (the character, not the actor) is lord god king of the INTJs.

Published writers actually recommend that as a way to get to know characters before starting an original novel. It's not silly at all, it's very helpful.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-31 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, this actually sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

[identity profile] citrinesunset.livejournal.com 2011-10-31 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I used to do that all the time. I should do it again, actually. It's fun!

(Anonymous) 2011-10-31 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
huh. I think I might try this, thanks anon!

I love the Myers-Briggs test. What makes you think it's not valid?

[identity profile] ninety6tears.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I thought I was the only person who did stuff like this.

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I do that with my favourite characters, too!

[identity profile] junoluver.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Myers-Briggs is EXCELLENT for building characters! I do it for mine too, and for the same reasons, it's just fun getting inside their heads and thinking through them.

I am sure it benefits your writing and characterization, anon!

[identity profile] clowderheart.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I used to have my original characters' type profiles printed out. They were like five pages each.

[identity profile] kryptoncat.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
THIS IS JUST WHAT I NEED. Thank you OP, I can now start a fanfic with confidence!

[identity profile] foxhound.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I do this, too. I think it's great fun.

[identity profile] raichu100.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
This actually sounds like a lot of fun...

(Anonymous) 2011-11-01 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Where can I find the test? I would love to try it for my OCs.

Google Myers Briggs test... there's a few of them on there (some you have to pay for, but most are free)

Oh! I used to do that, but I'd forgotten about it. I always found it very helpful. Thank you for reminding me, anon!

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-11-02 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Super late, but oh my god, I've totally done that. Multiple times. I regret nothing.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-02 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, anon, that's not silly. You know what's silly?

making ketsuekigata profiles for your characters.
