It's been awhile since I've read this book, so I'm not 100% sure what you're referencing... and because I am 4, all I can remember is the pseudo-lesbian scene before their respective weddings, which I'm guessing is not your point.

Snow Flower was trapped in an abusive relationship with her husband, and Lily ended up ruining her reputation (and ending their friendship) after a misunderstanding in reading one of their letters in nu-shu. Lily ended up becoming very well-known for her criticism, and become prosperous as a result of her shaming Snow Flower in front of many other women. Snow Flower's life sucked.

It's been a while since I read the book, but I clearly remember that Snow Flower's life sucked in about a million ways. Are you worried that you're doomed and your life is going uncontrollably down the drain? That your Lily keeps misunderstanding you when you want to talk to her about how you feel? Is she putting unwanted pressure on you?
