Notes:

Somebody's been spamming the submissions post with old secrets, apparently (for what actual purpose, I'm not sure). Just give me a heads up and I'll take the repeats down.

You must have pretty low standards for what counts as "characters" and "story."

(Anonymous) 2011-10-31 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but they're characters with names and personalities who go through trials and tribulations, i.e. a story. People watch entertainment shows to be entertained. Sorry not everyone uses your own personal measuring stick to judge if a show is ~worthy.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-01 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
having names and "personalities" (and no, "tsundere", "yandere", tomboy", "rich girl", "normal guy" and "nerd" aren't personalities) doesn't automatically make characters good.

who said anything about good? that first person is saying op doesn't even get to count them as characters at all. Also, good is subjective tyvm. Good for you that you don't think they are, op is free to feel the opposite

[identity profile] raichu100.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
You don't get to define a "good" character, sorry.
ext_81845: the character ray person from generation kill, squinting and smiling/smirking (yeah... no.)

HOTD is about high schoolers fighting zombies, didn't know that needed to be deep and have super complex characters to be entertaining

(Anonymous) 2011-11-01 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Funny part is, you can actually consider HotD a commentary about the westernization of the Japanese youth as most zombie stories are social commentaries and there is plenty of evidence in the series itself.

To each their own. I'm sure some of them have awesome stories and characters. Too bad the constant objectification of my gender keeps me from liking them.

I feel like a bad female because stuff like that doesn't bother me, and it probably should.

[identity profile] honestys-easy.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
OT, but I was disappointed that High School of the Dead was all about ecchi and fanservice. I thought it would have been an interesting concept to be done from a Japanese perspective since we see so many Western takes on the zombie apocalypse.

[identity profile] wicked-seraph.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Not gonna lie - I was expecting much more ugh-worthy fanservice from HOTD and was pleasantly surprised. It's not a ~deep story or anything, but idk, I thought it was entertaining. I'm also shamelessly fond of zombies so there's that, as well.

[identity profile] bleed-peroxide.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I could have done without all of the blatant fanservice, but besides that, High School of the Dead was surprisingly awesome. My friend and I went into it EXPECTING the series to be terrible, but winded up marathoning the entire thing in a night because we got hooked.
ext_81845: kai shiden w/ an awkward expression, from the manga gundam: the origin (awkward)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
IA, despite the ridiculous over-the-top fanservice it did have some good action and a neat premise. Of course it would've been a lot better without the impossible boob physics but I still enjoyed it, enough to marathon it like you did

I don't know any of the other series in OP's image though

[identity profile] bleed-peroxide.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
*nod nod* I'm a huge nerd for zombie stuff, which is why I was even intrigued if only to snark it. The dub was excellent, which made it even more enjoyable to watch. It's hard to make references to Japanese pop culture work in the English dub, but they pulled it off really well (that, and I remember Ghost Stories did well with it). The line "Who's her friend, Sarah fucking Palin?" had Jim and I cracking up (neither of us like Palin one bit).

(Anonymous) 2011-11-01 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you, anon. My husband loves the ridic Gainaxing boobies, so a lot of them play in my periphery... and I've actually ended up liking a few for the premise. Queen's Blade had fun action sequences, High School of the Dead was an all-around awesome zombie show, and Sekirei was like silly girly-Pokemon. It just depends on the show.

[identity profile] ronny-of-yore.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Although I had to look past -- and I mean a lot -- of the fan-service, I actually ended up liking High School of the Dead. :)

(Anonymous) 2011-11-02 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I could watch more like this. I keep watching expecting to enjoy the ecchi and maybe find something else to enjoy too and increasingly I just get disgusted with the blatantness of the pandering and can't stand watching further.

If you can, though, check out the old Variable Geo OAV series. It's got plenty of fanservice but it also works well as a fighting anime.
