I seldom discuss KK because there's enough girl-hate out there without me adding to it, but...yeah. She plays the exact same character in everything I've ever seen her in. Elizabeth Swann, Elizabeth Bennett, the Duchess, Guinevere, Lara Antipova, the tomboy from "Bend it like Beckham"...they're all the exact same person - the same mannerisms, the same facial expressions, the same inflections and speech patterns...it's not that she can't sell a line, but she has absolutely no range whatsoever.

Yeah, this. Except I really like her in Bend it like Beckham, strangely enough.

I feel bad for adding to the hate myself but it frustrates me that there hasn't been much improvement in her acting ability over the years, and idk if it's just nepotism or she's just really good at networking but I wish I could have seen other actresses in her past movies.

I agree, but I think it's because Bend It Like Beckham was the first thing I saw her in.

nepotism only goes so far. she gets so much work because she became joe wright's darling, and she became joe wright's darling because the camera loves her. wright is into visuals and keira photographs extremely well.

i also think she has a very strong on-screen presence, personally. ia that she's not that good an actress (better than the likes of natalie portman, though, imo) but presence like hers can't be bought or taught. it's hard to be indifferent to her.

I think a lot of my frustration does stem from the fact that she IS so very beautiful and the presence is there but without her really working on her acting skills it's just a lot wasted potential.

Idk maybe she should do more plays. It might help.

there are better looking women in the industry for sure, in more conventionally attractive ways too, but they don't always photograph as well or look as striking on screen.

and lol i'm sounding like such a stan. i'm not that into her, but i like her fine, and can see why she is the most successful actress under 30 in the biz.

carey is a better actress, but isn't quite there yet in terms of recognition. kiki dunst had a comeback in melancholia recently, but i think kk's is commanding bigger paychecks these days? scarjo has avengers, but isn't landing the sort or award-baity roles kk lands. who else?

... ooh, there's anne hathaway, but like, anne hasn't been nominated to an oscar or been in as many critically aclaimed movies.

so yeah, i still can't think of anyone.

kristen stewart and emma watson are better paid because of twilight and harry potter, tho, i think.

She's probably 'kinda average' in the sense that her type of look isn't quite what thecagebirdsing considers to be exceptionally beautiful. I think she's kind of ugly, myself. Something about her face is really off-putting to me. And her body type is way too thin for my tastes (no, I don't think she's anorexic or whatever that wank is when she crops up, but I really don't find this body type attractive). Different strokes for different folks. I will admit that she does photograph well.

I didn't mind her in Love Actually, but then again, she was HARDLY in it.

....I can tolerate her in PotC....if only cause I liked her chemistry with Johnny WAY more than her (non existent) chemistry with Orlando Bloom. That and I ship Jack/Lizzie like whoa. >_>
