Notes:

Somebody's been spamming the submissions post with old secrets, apparently (for what actual purpose, I'm not sure). Just give me a heads up and I'll take the repeats down.

not op but who the hell are you to tell people what can and cannot make them feel better? yes I know what /b/ is and what an absolute mess of a cesspool it can be but I also know that the strangest, smallest, most unexpected things can help people come to terms with issues going on in their lives whether it's through positives or negatives and it's rude of you to call troll over that.

[identity profile] countess-k.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
No it's not rude because it's the truth. A board that tells women to go back to the kitchen and Jewish people to get into the oven is hardly a place to get life lessons from. Some things are simply too obvious so stop trying to sugar coat turd.

I'm not trying to sugar coat anything. Life lessons are not some specific syllabus. You don't know what the op has been through or what they mean so it's hardly your place. You never know, they could mean something like they once behaved that way and /b/ gave them a reality check. It could have been one comment that was neither of those disgusting things. I don't even know why I'm defending this, /b/ is a terrible place. But I get sensitive about people making rules about what and what counts as personal help.

I'm not the anon you were talking too and Ive never been on those boards -from the look of it I dont want to O_O- but I just wanted to say I get the point getting help from weird places. I have had some really tough periods in life some where I affected me and some where I affected others and I got over some of it by seeing and doing some really really really freaky and taboo things that I won't ever tell a soul not even my family about but hell if that stuff didnt help me to become well adjusted again better than any prescription. just a thought :)

See though, sometimes /b/ is that. Other times /b/ raises the money to help a broke college student pay his rent for the month, and spends an hour giving him practical financial advice to keep him out of the hole.

Any given day, any given thread, you get a whole different thing.

Mind, most people will not find help of any useful sort. Though op actually said they found it on /adv/, so it's a moot point.

/b/ might occassionally be willing to help a guy but i highly doubt they would ever, ever be interested in doing anything other than sexually harass and troll a girl that came to them for help in anything

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2011-11-01 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you could be surprised. Though doubt you ever will. You come across as the type that should stay far, far away. They can smell "person easy to raeg" and you got it all over you.

I'm not saying /b/ is some great place even the majority of the time. But neither is it quite as institutionally misogynistic as you seem to claim. It lacks the cohesion to actually adopt any policy.

Except Hating Scientology.
