Somebody's been spamming the submissions post with old secrets, apparently (for what actual purpose, I'm not sure). Just give me a heads up and I'll take the repeats down.

...Walt Disney didn't invent Snow White, though. Why does it have to be faithful to his interpretation?

(No opinions whatsoever on that particular version.)

Because it's on ABC.

I assume because it's the most universally known and most people's immediate mental image for Snow White. So then to some degree, an audience might expect the actor to emulate the animated film, even though as you said, it's not the source material and they have no reason to do so.

'Cool story bro' that's somewhat relevant: I played Alice in an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. I am brunette. The girl Carroll based Alice on was also a brunette. Yet I got asked on a daily basis by people and parents involved in the production if I was going to wear a blond wig. Because if that's how Disney did it, it must be true.

I love me some Disney, but man did I ever have some rage about that until I was done with the show.

Not only did Disney not invent Snow White (since she's a much older fairy tale), he's not an artist in any sense. I don't know where people get this idea that Walt Disney was this old genius animator, because he had no artistic skill - he was just a businessman. He figured out how to manage a studio and introduced the factory system of production into animation, for better or for worse. The Mouse House is known as one of the more oppressive places to work, because of Walt's iron fist when it came to production.

But saying something like it couldn't have been better if Walt 'drew it himself'...yikes. His marketing team is dynamite if people are still thinking he actually had a creative hand in any of this.

Oh wait, that's technically wrong - he did have SOME artistic skill, but mostly he did lame character design while taking advantage of dudes like Ub Iwerks, who actually did the animation for stuff like Steamboat Willie and didn't get credited :/

Everyone thinks of Disney as this wholesome family brand, but as far as corporate success stories go it's very typically greasy and full of backstabbing.
