What do you mean you could never make amends with your Johns? Of course you can! Personal relationships don't have to be static. If your Johns are like Homestuck!John, they would make pretty good, loyal friends.

Oh, I read it as in "OP feels that the comic means that he could grow closer to his Johns, whether romantically or as friends, but he really can't and it's frustrating to see the shippers insist that the characters could transition from their uneasy allegiance to really good friends/lovers when OP feels that he himself couldn't do that with his Johns".

Well, I read it that way because OP implied that sometimes it does (with difficulty) become friendship, but never love (the part s/he was lamenting)

also because "pairing" implies romance (unless you're talking pale or ashen but let's get real here 99% of JohnKat is not pale or ashen)

also the phrase "his Johns" keeps making me think of toilets

s/he has lots of them XD

I'm pretty sure he's saying "if I have a sudden crush on someone and get rejected, I can't just be friends with them without getting bitter."
