Yeah, but it isn't that their marriage was arranged. It's that Cupid himself is the one who put the love into them. So there's the possibility that they would have never fell in love with each other if it weren't for Cupid's intervention.

Except that it's also implied Cupid does this a lot. And? Are you mad that he arranged other couples? Are you mad Greek and Roman mythos has him at all?

I guess I don't see the big deal. so there wasn't some cheesy falling-in-love montage, but does that make it any less real than when, say, your parents set you up and you fall for the person?

Except there's a difference between being set-up with someone and falling in love with them of your own volition, and being forced to fall in love with someone due to an angel's meddling.

So yes, IMO it does take the *magic* out of Mary/John's relationship.
