27. You do realize "American Gothic" is of a farmer and his daughter, not his wife, right?

I should hope s/he does. Makes it all the better.

Yeah I have no problem with incest, this would definitely make it more amusing though. I think I overreacted in this case..!

lol, not much worse than twincest honestly.

In fairness, it's been "translated" - so to speak - through time to be a husband and a wife; it wasn't until Art History in college that I realized that the artist originally meant it to be a father-daughter painting. In spoofs you see, it certainly is almost always a husband and a wife.

Amusing, though, really. It gives the painting a whole other meaning...

This is understood, definitely,I suppose I just got defensive because it irked me s/he would blindly assume it was a man and wife without doing any.. even just skimming a bit of research either out of common interest if it they do ~ship it OMG!~
Eh hahah in retrospect I sound a bit like I overreacted

If you break THE FOURTH WALL (or whatever it would be called in dealing with paintings?), it's the artist's sister and his doctor or something.

[identity profile] anna-elena.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
This I did not know! I feel as if I'm learning something now, ahah

That's why I took art history, so I can tell people random facts about paintings. :D
