I also have this mental block. I very rarely picture the characters themselves or hear any particular voice. It doesn't stop me from reading or writing though, like, the personalities are still enough of a draw for me.

Now I kinda want to go study the brain/learning, because these secrets keep reminding me that we all see and process things on the inside in very different ways and IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY THAT I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY I MUST KNOW NOW NOW NOW NOW

I actively try not to sometimes. It's the only way I can read fics with plots/characterizations that I enjoy in fanon but don't believe will ever become canon, or that I would never want to become canon. A fic has to be really IC, like "could have been taken out of a script" IC, for me to envision the actual characters.

I have such a hard time capturing character's voices, and I'm insanely jealous of people who can. So yeah, I know how this feels OP.

Whenever I read anything I almost always read it in my own voice. I guess I'm subconsciously a narcissist, IDK

That sucks, OP, because I enjoy fics a lot more when I can hear the characters' voices in my head. It's also one of the ways I test my own writing for ICness - I play the line in my head with the character's voice and see if I can believe hearing it that way.

I thinks that why I don't write fanfic although I'm tempted to at times. I don't hear the characters/visualize them while I'm reading them. Sometimes I do think they sound IC but I don't hear the character saying the lines or what have you that I read about in the comments.

It's okay, OP.

I don't usually imagine voices or what the characters look like, except in very brief flashes when a particular piece of detail catches my eye.

I have this problem with RDJ, it seems. Whenever I read fic with one of his characters, my brain replaces him with Hank Azaria for some reason. Someone explain that, please. Because, wow. Seriously, brain?
