It's hardly fandom elitist to be annoyed at people claiming to be fans of something they've never played. It's like people saying they're huge Final Fantasy fans, but all they've played is Kingdom Hearts.

man you don't get to set the standard for what makes a fan. some people only need a cool character design to become a fan. they are still a fan. it is still an interest of theirs. just because you're stomping your foot and saying it's not enough doesn't change anything.

well they'd be a fan of the character or the secondary game they were in, not the GAME THEY NEVER PLAYED.

liking a character design or brawl/kh =/= liking the entire series the character was from, sorry. you would like the series.. because you've played it. LOL.

it's clearly not an interest as a series if you've never played the game, if you thought it was interesting you prob would have rented/dled/bought a FE or FF game. the character(s) may be but the game? nah.

I agree. I personally wouldn't call myself a fan of something I haven't played or seen but if someone else wants to, I really don't care.

I know, at least watch a play through, or read the script. Get some more exposure the series, than two random character from and obscure JRPG who are both on the same sorta plotless mascot fighter. I also hate it when people make up characterizations for Marth and Roy, or say there from the same universe.

If you're taking them from SSB then say so, but don't say they're from Fire Emblem.

I agree it's silly but whatever. There are a lot of fans like this, especially in the bigger fandoms. I always wonder how much enjoyment they can get out of something without knowing much of the canon, but if they just want to look at pretty fanart or read pornfic or something more power to them I guess.
