Not in skating fandom, but that's a very accurate picture of femslash in most fandoms, sadly :(

True. But I'm surprised to hear it about skating. I don't know much about the fandom but there have been so many great females in the sport.

This. Ladies skating isn't quite what it used to be these days, but Yuna Kim and Mao Asada were great in their prime, which wasn't too long ago, and ice dancing is more popular than ever- I'd like to see some more fic about Meryl Davis. It doesn't have to even be femslash, het or gen is just fine with me. I love a good genfic, especially if it's funny, though admittedly my favorite genfic was dark and involved a plane crash and resorting to cannabalism (it was a crack!prompt on the kinkmeme, IIRC, but it was surprisingly well-written).

nah. rizzoli & isles, the girls aloud rpf fandom, brittana (glee), sailor moon, the good wife. there was a time where the most popular pairing in the l&o: svu fandom was alex cabot/olivia.

i think the problem is that shows that become really huge in fandom 1. have few female characters that appeal to femslashers, 2. barely manage to pass the bechdel test, if they do pass it at all.

i don't blame femslashers for not being all over, say, x-men: first class or snp or hawaii five-0.

Good point. Probably should have said "large fandom". Or "fandom that shows up on F!S a whole bunch".

Though I guess Homestuck has a large femslash contingent, so there's that.

("cool story bro" time, but having a sausagefest fandom with like two ladies in it makes me want to write femslash for it even more. I have no idea why.)

One word: Xena. Xena: the Warrior Princess and home oflots of femslash and uberfic (characters based on Xena and Gabriel, written in the present usually, but given different names; like reading published lesbian fic but with their personalities). Several of these authors have published (not self pubbed either) lesbian stories now.

I do sympathize with OP on the sentiment of the secret (I'd love to see more femslash in pretty much any fandom), but I have to admit, the first thought that flew through my mind at the "number of people on this rink" remark was 'oh, so there are a thousand ninja!femslashers in your fandom'. xD

Femslash in sports is pretty low in general. I think the only sport where there is more fic love for the ladies than the men is gymnastics. Then again, almost no one likes men's gymnastics... :(

Sad because I might have stayed in figure skating fandom longer if there was femslash since I shipped Yuna Kim/Mao Asada.

I haven't read skating fic in ages, but IIRC, mosca and bulldogfaith write skating femslash.
