with you on the first, not so sure about the second. Chris Lee was a sexy, sexy, Drac (even if his movies had sod all to do with the book)

HECK YEAH, MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND. It's certainly the most entertaining adaptation of Treasure Island I've ever seen. Remarkably faithful considering it's a muppet movie, too. (Although not as close as some, of course.)

I agree!!

Considering they're both intended to be comedy/parody movies, they're both remarkably similar to the source material (not counting Renfield being the one who travels to Transylvania instead of Jonathan), more entertaining than most Dracula/Treasure Island movies, and obviously care for their source material.

I can't remember anything about the second one, despite being sure that I have watched at least once.

I loved the Muppets one, though.

My absolutely favorite Treasure Island adaptation was this local theatre play our school dragged us to, where the main character boy (I forget his name) was in fact a girl, and she crossdressed to be able to hang out with the pirates. She and the pirate guy (John Silver...? oh, okay, now I'm finding it troubling that I can't remember the names O_o'') bonded and had an awesome friendship with a cool musical number.

But then the pirates find out that she is a girl and ditch her, and she's all hurt and stuff and that's all I remember from the play! :D But it was awesome.

Muppets!

I HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SAY, BUT YAAAAAAAAAY MUPPETS TREASURE ISLAND! IT IS THE ONLY MOVIE THAT I CAN WATCH ALL THE WAY THROUGH REPEATEDLY AND COME OUT WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE. :D

Not quite the right Muppet movie, but....

I'm sorry, I think you mispelled it. I think you tried to say that Muppet Treasure Island is the best pirate movie of all times.

Because it is.

OP, are you me? Because both of those ruined all other adaptations for me*. Can we throw in Disney's Robin Hood, too?

*though the Coppola Dracula is an admitted guilty pleasure because it's so, so hammy, and it has my man Cary Elwes with a moustache

MUPPET TREASURE IS PROBABLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES AND OMG IT TOTALLY IS THE BEST VERSION OF IT.

TLDR: when I was about eleven, my mom read Treasure Island to my younger sister and I. Since then, I've never really been able to enjoy an adaptation of Stevenson's original work - because none of them really do it justice. Muppet Treasure Island comes close in the way that it pokes fun at the original story while still being remarkably true to it.

Yes. I have FEELINGS about this movie.

Man, all this Muppet love makes me wish more people were hanging out at the Muppet movie spam party (http://muppets.livejournal.com/344842.html)

Total agreement on the first; their Christmas Carol was always my favorite, too. As for Dracula... I prefer the Keanu movie. I thought everybody was delightfully hammy, especially Anthony Hopkins. There was sexthe and goreI and Keanu's accent... omg lol.

[identity profile] vampirenaomi.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE both movies, especially Muppet Treasure Island! But my favourite adaptation of TI will always be the 1979 anime series.

[identity profile] emmakitty.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
I've never read Treasure Island or Dracula, but I'm with you on the Muppets. Muppet Christmas Carol is the most accurate version I've ever seen and I even got one of my high school teachers to agree with me when I asked to watch it during our Christmas Carol unit in Novels Into Films!

[identity profile] anyersim.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
OP, are you me? Did I post this whilst asleep or intoxicated?! Cause damn, HELL TO THE YES. I get so disappointed when people say they've never head of Dracula: Dead and Loving It. So upsetting D: Peter Nicols as Renfield (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24czSl30EmA) is brilliant!

Also, the best part of the entire Muppet Treasure Island Movie has to be Cabin Fever. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pWPg2DXcHA) I know all the words to it *ahem*
