Successful =/= good

good enough.

According to who? I mean, do I get to choose what stories other people should enjoy?

According to aesthetic realism.

Good, and enjoyable aren't necessarily the same thing.

Ah, but they've rendered the word "good" practically meaningless, since it no longer encompasses any of the criteria that I and most others look for when selecting a book. Ie: enjoyable content.

I usually like you, but really. Just b/c something is enjoyable to read, doesn't mean it's good or well-written. Twilight is a badly, badly written book full of grammar errors and questionable construction even if you find that the plot/characters hit your kinks/id in the right way.

Twilight fails on being well-written. It fails on logic, coherency, and construction. YMMV on the plot and on the characters but that the only place it may vary if you took an objective view about it.

And that is very important.

Twilight's writing could be improved by a better editor, yes. This would have zero impact on its popularity and people would still snark on it for its other ridiculous aspects (which still don't stop other people from enjoying it).

It's good to have a high bar for writing quality, if only so that books are still comprehensible when they fall short of it. But grammatically incorrect writing is a pointless thing to get hung up on, especially with something like Twilight. You may as well be red lining Moon Over June. Actually, no, never mind, that's way more pointless.

I think at this point we can just say that something 'good or well-written' is entirely subjective.

Some people stan for Jane Austen, well others like Charlotte Brontë thought her books were badly written.
