It's mostly true. Surf around Ponibooru or Ponychan or even on 4chan. Most of them raising a stink? Male. Cause their fap material wasn't recognized on the show.

And you KNOW that certain pairings that didn't happen in a popular show or book were mostly headed by desperate women/teen girls. Mainly because most guys usually don't give a flying rat's ass about shipping. So no, that is not a good comparison.

Oh no I agree. But in THIS fandom? It IS the extra Y that's causing most of the wank. Which in turn gets all the X's wanky about it, too.

I like the fandom, but to ignore the fact that it's mainly dudes causing the stink cause their precious Woona wasn't portrayed as they wanted is stupid in and of itself.

... but those are chansites, you can't check someone's gender on there. I know lots of girls on those sites. And on the facebook things it seems to be equal girls AND boys who got wanky about it (and the fact Ditzy Doo was shown to have a big sister)

Hey, I'm going with what I've seen. Those sites, plus Equestria Daily, has an overwhelmingly large male fanbase and they are usually the ones who are the loudest about things not going their way.

Just look at the new blind bag ponies that was just released in the last week or so. So many of them got angry at Hasbro for NOT using the fanon names Lyra, Carrot Top, and Berry Punch for some similar colored ponies who happened to be named Heartstrings (lyra), Golden Harvest (Carrot top), and Berryshine (berry punch), despite legal reasons as to WHY Hasbro can't (carrot top would have the most issues than the other two).

They can't look past those names to see the gift Hasbro has given them by even making similarly colored ponies based on popular bg ponies.

I know it's not ALL TEH MENZ fault in the fandom. There are some women who have the same issues and can't look past the fanon to see the canon in front of them (i follow one one on tumblr), but, from my own experiences, it is the MALE fanbase that is causing all the unnecessary wank over characterizations and names.
