I actually have no memory of my reaction to this when I was a kid. I must have been devastated though, because Tobias was one of my favorite characters. Maybe I blocked it out because it was too traumatizing. O_O Or I was so happy to find out that he was alive, I completely forgot about the scare.

Anyway, I re-read this book recently and thought, "lol fake bird, not Tobias." The Internet has ruined my brain.

The wait between this book and the next was indeed insanely long-- fairly sure preteen me cried the first time I read it and I thought Tobias was dead, too.

Yay for an Animorphs secret! I don't blame you at all. I mean, Tobias wasn't my favorite and I was convinced he wasn't really dead - at the time I thought Applegate was never going to kill any of the six - but I was still stuck in suspense until #22 came out. It really was a stressful time!

That was such a fantastic arc btw; now I want to re-read it!
