I think she's overrated but I quite enjoy Jacob too, anon. It's okay. I hate Orson Scott Card for being a homophobic douchenozzle, but I still love some of his books. Creators =/= all of their works.

What's so bad about humon that you would compare her to Orson Scott Card? Honest question, I don't know much about her except seeing her stuff on the front page at DA.

Or do you just mean she's really overrated, which I guess I agree with.

It wasn't meant to be a super-precise analogy, just the first one that came to mind of someone I disapproved of personally but enjoyed some of their works. (I'm not comparing Ender's Game to some cheesy doodles in terms of being the same quality caliber either, for that matter.)

I haven't followed the wank around her closely, but IIRC she once uploaded a picture of father/daughter incest, where the child was very young, without proper warnings, to 'teach a lesson' to the people who were fangirling one of her characters despite her insisting he was a rapist/horrible person. And then I don't think she was at all gracious about taking it down, and I don't know if she ever apologized for triggering people.

But you'd be better off asking the other folks in this thread who actually hate her if you want the details of her offenses.

wow, I don't know who she is and had never heard of her before this secret, but crap

I get the want to teach a lesson, but a warning wouldn't have diminished the impact, since the truly misguided fans would have disregarded the warning and seen the picture anyway

Yeah, definitely a shitty move, and not handled very well. She tends to be very unapologetic about her general disregard for PCness, which some people like about her, I guess, but doesn't lend itself to sensitivity in other areas either.

Again, though, I got all of this secondhand - through fandomsecrets after the fact, as it happens - so take it with a grain of salt.

I actually remember that discussion here but for some reason I didn't remember it was humon.

It was an awful thing to do all right. I can still enjoy her work, though I'm not a huge fan anyway, but yeah, I see your point.

I don't hate her, but she waves off Denmark's xenophobia and racism as perfectly acceptable. It's fine if it's a cultural thing, but she never goes on to explain that she doesn't think that way, so you kind of get the feeling she does.

There's a lot of America-bashing, which is also fine, I'm American, so I'm aware a lot of people aren't our biggest fans, but she just makes shit up. She tried to make the Deepwater Horizon appear to be America's fault and she had one comic where America tricks Norway into eating peanut butter and then puts him on display, making a sort of reference to the Swedish chef. Americans are more apt to ignore Norwegians than deliberately humiliate them.

Her characters enjoy pressuring proclaimed heterosexuals into doing homosexual acts or shame characters for cross-dressing.

She's fine if she talks about Scandinavia. It's the second she steps out of that area that you start tilting your head at everything she does.

That's in fact the only thing I don't get when people complain about her. How is her "America bashing" any different from American media's "Euro bashing"?
Like Americans never make shit up to humiliate Europeans or other people.
Do I have to remind you of the "all Germans love scat", "all Germans are like Hitler", "French people have really bad hygiene" and "all Brits are gay by default" jokes? Dude, I just need to watch a The Simpsons episode to see blatant "Euro bashing", so I guess you just have to grow a thicker skin.
