OP could easily find a decent dressmaker who could make something very close. Getting a custom wedding dress can be a pretty cool experience anyway!

Actually, it's going to be WAY more likely she'll be able to afford something similar off the rack than going to a professional dressmaker. My mother is a seamstress, and even though she gives discounts for wedding related stuff, the number of hours of labor involved in a wedding dress (especially one with elaborate decoration like that) is going to make getting a custom dress very expensive indeed.

It was Alexander McQueen. Or at least, the black lace overlay was, the dress itself was a different colour and length and had a weird neckline. But there was a rather large kerfuffle about it;

I disagree, but then I'm totally biased towards Alexander McQueen and his designs. :P (The line that dress was from was pretty amazing (http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/F2008RTW-AMCQUEEN?viewall=true); it was my favourite collection of his too.)

Wow, I can't with this plagiarism thing. At least make an effort not to pick such a high profile designer. I feel pretty insulted as a fan of his since he only died last year.
